The Joseph Joseph Flume was an exercise in simple innovation in a long-standing product. By thoroughly exploring how a draining mat is used, Studio17 saw an opportunity to make to process of emptying water more manageable.

Shallow draining mats store a small amount of water from drying glasses, bowls and cutlery, but flexible rubber mats can be tricky to drain back to the sink. Without extra parts or material, and sensitive to commercial restraints, Flume is diagonally surfaced down towards the middle. Ribs channel water towards the centre, but also provide strength where needed – allowing the mat to fold, channelling water back into the sink.

Moulded in TPE, the product is stiff enough to retain its shape but flexible enough to fold in the centre, and protect glasses and crockery from chips.
